Viele der globalen Megastädte konzentrieren sich in den tropischen Zonen entlang des Äquators – primär im Globalen Süden. Dieser geografische Raum deckt sich weitgehend mit dem sogenannten Kaffeegürtel.


Das Epizentrum der aktuellen Megastadt-Agglomeration liegt in Südostasien: einer Region mit über 770 Millionen Einwohnern und einer rasant fortschreitenden Urbanisierung. Um wertvolles, fruchtbares Agrarland vor weiterer Zersiedelung zu schützen, ist die vertikale Entwicklung und Verdichtung die einzig tragfähige Option – Hochhäuser, konzipiert als vertikale Städte und dichte urbane Quartiere.


Um diese Transformation wirksam zu steuern, müssen die entscheidenden Einflussfaktoren thermodynamisch betrachtet werden. Die urbanen Ober-flächentemperaturen spielen hierbei die zentrale Rolle, da sie das städtische Mikroklima maßgeblich beeinflussen. Hochhäuser können dank ihrer Höhe und Dichte strategisch dazu beitragen, diese Megastädte aktiv zu kühlen und durch integrierte Vegetationssysteme gezielt zu belüften.


Diese Seite zeigt Wärmebilder verschiedener Städte und städtebaulicher Situationen, um insbesondere auf die Materialbeschaffenheit urbaner Oberflächen und die Hitzefolgen für den städtischen Raum aufmerksam zu machen.

Wärmebildaufnahmen aus Macau. Als Sonderverwaltungszone und Asiens Pendant zu Las Vegas erstreckt sich die Stadt über Inseln, die ehemals unter portugiesischer Kolonialverwaltung standen. Das Stadtbild offenbart Fragmente dieser Vergangenheit neben rasanter zeitgenössischer Entwicklung. Auch hier wirkt sich die extreme Hitze massiv auf den städtischen Wohnkomfort und die Lebensqualität aus.
